A Realisation Born From Travel
Velvet Harvest was born from a simple realisation that revealed itself through years of collective travel and global exposure. When you grow up in South Africa you live far from the rest of the world, and every international trip takes you deep into new cultures and new ways of doing things. For a long time, we enjoyed those experiences without thinking much about what we were leaving behind. Then, as a team of co-founders travelling frequently for work and life, something became impossible to ignore.
Wherever we landed, our first priority was always the same, find good nutrition, pick up something wholesome and grab clean, natural snacks. No matter where we were, from Europe to the United States to Australia, we found ourselves searching for dried fruit that tasted even remotely close to what we were used to back home. And it simply did not exist. Nothing came close to the richness, the softness, the sweetness and the quality we had taken for granted in South Africa.
Crafting a New Standard of Dried Fruit
That single insight led to the creation of Velvet Harvest. We decided to partner with the finest producers in South Africa to craft a new category of dried fruit, one that feels premium rather than secondary, one that celebrates freshness, flavour and texture instead of long shelf life. Our range is made from super A grade fruit, gently dried to retain its juiciness, natural sweetness and luxurious mouthfeel. This is dried fruit elevated into a product worthy of being gifted, served to guests or enjoyed as a daily ritual at home.
From the beginning, our vision has extended far beyond the product itself. Many of the regions where this fruit is grown and dried face significant economic hardship, and as co-founders we felt a responsibility to support the communities at the heart of this craft. A percentage of our profit goes to vetted orphanages in these farming areas, places run with integrity and genuine care. This commitment sits at the core of Velvet Harvest, to nourish not only our customers but also the children and families within the communities that make this product possible.
